How places get picked.

Every place and every date here was added one at a time, with a link to the place’s own website. Nothing is imported from a listings site.

Where places come from

A place goes in when it makes a good stop on a date night in Kansas City: dinner, drinks, a show, a walk, something to play. Each one is entered by itself, with its address and a link to its own website, and its hours when the place lists them.

How a date is put together

A ready-made date is written out stop by stop, in an order that makes sense for the night. The planner picks from those dates using your answers: the day, your budget, the part of town and what sounds fun. It checks each stop’s hours against the time you’ll be there.

How hours get checked

Hours come from the place’s own website first. A date page says how long ago each stop’s hours were checked: freshly checked, checked recently, or checked a while ago. If we haven’t checked a place lately, it says “Call ahead” instead of guessing.

Prices are estimates for two, from menus and public listings. They are never quotes.

How events get on the calendar

Some events are read once a day from calendars, mostly venues’ own event pages plus a few city, county and neighborhood calendars. A calendar event only shows when it’s at a place already on the site, and nothing from a city calendar or a ticket site goes up without a review.

Other events are added one at a time after a look at the organizer’s or the venue’s own page. Events drop off once they’re over.

How areas are decided

A place’s area follows the city’s own lines: city limits, the city’s area plans and each district’s borders. A place right on a line keeps the name locals and the place itself use. A date goes under the area where most of its stops are.

Nobody pays to be here

No place pays to be listed or to come up first. If that ever changes, anything paid will be clearly labeled.

Who keeps it

A Kansas City local keeps the site up. We use AI tools to help with research and code. The facts come from each place’s own website, not from an AI’s memory.
